Lessons For The Living

In late 2006, Tim Tosta was asked by the Chair of the Real Estate Section of the California State Bar to present a panel on recent developments in California land-use law. Tim proposed an alternative. He asked the Chair, a long term friend and colleague, if he could present a talk on how his work as a hospice volunteer had reshaped his life and practice as a land use lawyer. Tim agreed to use real world examples from his practice to illustrate his points and to ground those examples into relevant teachings for the audience. Tim made his first presentation of “Lessons for the Living”in May, 2007 and received some of the highest reviews ever given a program speaker. Then, he reprised his presentation to the Trusts and Estates Section of the California State Bar at its 2007 annual meeting. This was followed by a 2008 presentation to the California Association of Appellate Lawyers. Tim subsequently has presented a modified version of the program to executives of leading institutional lending and investment banking institutions as well as to the Urban Land Institute.
